Those who can’t do…teach. And those who can’t teach…

Hello old friend, it has been quite some time.

You may recall my feeble attempts at becoming a writer. Often self-indulgent and naive, though full of spirit, I toyed with the idea of such a profession and here lies the remnants of that undisciplined endeavour. Passionate, yet easily distracted by the lures of a good story; I chose more often to live than record. And then there’s the other thing that sort of got in the way…my wayward behaviours. Yes, let’s call it just that.

Four years have passed and what have I to say for myself? Well, I learned I wasn’t serious enough to make it in the ever challenging world of a writer’s craft. So, I decided to test the old adage and try it on for size: ‘Those who can’t do…teach.’

I did. And I loved it. I moved to London, UK, where the opportunity presented itself and I spent two years at the front of a classroom. It wasn’t easy, but it was fulfilling.

After that I traveled (we traveled…yes I picked up in the UK). We lived in Adelaide, Australia for a splendid while…Then it was time to come home.

Family reasons.

I love Toronto. I love Canada even more. But it has been difficult coming home. I’ve spent the last 9 months trying to get back into teaching. I had my chance with the school board I wanted…and I blew it.

So back to the old saying…where does that leave me? Full circle I suppose.

Thirty years old and back to pulling pints…mum would be proud. And yet, there’s something quite darling about a full circle…a second chance perhaps. So, the question here lies, will I fair better this time round?

The answer, wait and see.
