hard to explain

headstrong for so long the plan was a given,
even executioners can attest to the odd hesitation,
reckons herself a James Bond of sorts,
but fiction she is not.

Curious George away from the book,
heard a sound that would entice,
a mind so fancy free,
no thoughts of vice.

drops of deep sugar bohemian,
shades of amber circus distraction,
consumed the appetite she tried to conceal,
funny fate for the pride of schoolyard hide and seek.

fuzzy lines were drawn repeatedly overlapping,
the desk didn’t hold enough drawers,
she saw too much,
but in her mind still too little.

do not pass go, do not collect two hundred dollars,
a familiar voice,
still thinking risks would bring its relative rewards,
she just took it as suggestion.

then silence gave her a seat,
played her through the pictures and the words,
ones she knew,
ones she loved,
ones she ought to revisit,
it had been a while.

water water,
native water,
floating like before,
but now in between puzzles.

This is a poem I wrote four years ago on this date, February 17 at 2:39 pm. I have it hanging on my refrigerator, and today I felt compelled to give it a good read. Coincidence overwhelming; reckon serendipity. I was twenty two, untravelled still. Few dabbles in the unknown, but later that year I took my greatest adventure; Australia. Once I opened Pandora’s box my sentiments forever fixed to wander. I am much changed but in this poem I feel the same girl’s blood pulsing through my veins. How did she know?

Its hard to explain.
