A decade ago I held you tenderly in my arms,
I read you simple stories and you dreamed.
A few years ago I took off your training wheels and let you fall,
I played road hockey with you and I easily won.
A few months ago I was taller than you,
I still burped louder than you.
A few weeks ago your voice changed,
But you still laughed at my awesome jokes.
Today you are taller than me,
You cursed at me in jest and for the first time I let you get away with it.
But we arm wrestled and I won,
Though you will likely win in the years to come.
Nevertheless I know I will burp louder than you forever.
